NOLA
I cannot fathom why more people are not calling for criminal charges in relation to the fiasco that is New Orleans, LA.  I would charge the President, VP, several senate and house committeemen, the Gov of LA, the mayor of NO, and several others with negligent homocide in the wake of this...this malfeasant breach of faith, this betrayal, this treasonous, cowardly, and blatent disregard for human life.

Evidence exists!!  Several billions of dollars have been budgeted over the years to reinforce and raise the levees and berms around the city, and studies and simulations, (one done just last year, a simulated cat 4, hurricane Pam), have long supported the fact that this catastrophe was certain.  But where did the money go???  IRAQ!!!!  The Department of Homeland Security, by their ineptitute, and determined disregard for anything not terrorist related, did not have an adequate plan in place, nor (thanks again to the "war"), have the manpower to implement it.  The city called for a mass evacuation, then failed to follow up, to even see if there were people who couldn't get out and to provide for them.

I do not mean to belittle the fact that this was a horrible disaster to the people of the gulf states.  We Americans can handle scenes of destruction in the aftermath of hurricanes and tornadoes, we've done it before and will so again.  But shoud we see the pictures we now do mixed in with them, the bodies floating in brown, cesspool like filth?  Should we now have the hate professionals in residence, playing the race card?  I say NO!!!

This was wholly and completely avoidable, a disaster of man made proportions, of greed, callousnous, and ignorance, a betrayal in the simplest and most complete meaning of the word!

The government failed in the most fundamental duty that it has!!!  To protect it's citizens!!!  And while Dubya says that this is a horrible tragedy, and is praying for the families affected, and handing out hope and good will.  I cannot now believe he is at all sincere.

Beast of Burden
Banana (my lovely wife) got her clock today, the one she'd been eyeing for about a month.  She waited the appropriate length of time, had a coupon for 20% off and it was on sale as well, so as the super shopper she is, got a great deal.  Of course, we have somwhere in the neighborhood of 30 clocks in the house already, but that didn't seem to matter in the least.  Let me tell you, this is the grandfather of all clocks!!  40 inches in diameter, 2 tons of metal(I exagerate but little), it really is a nice clock, but my god!!! So as I'm helping MIL and Banana get it out of the vehicle, the conversation went something like this.

ME: this is heavy
NANA:  I know, but isn't it nice!!!!!!!
ME: Yeah,  but don't we have enough clocks?
MIL: (Chiming in in defense of her baby) You can never have too many clocks!
NANA: Don't you like it?  (she is fully capable of defending herself, you see)
ME: (backing off quickly) Of course!!!!!, where do you want it? (cheerfully)
NANA: There!
ME: There? (lump in throat)
NANA: Yup, there!
ME: (panic setting in) Are you sure there's not another place? (knowing that there isn't)
NANA: No, don't you think it'll look good there?
ME: Mumble, mumble, expletive, expletive (as I'm walking away of course, I don't want to give the impression that I am not absolutely exstatic about the project)

Let me tell you about where.  Where is in the middle of a wall in our foyer, the cieling of which is approx 19 ft high.  (never actually measured it)  So what I have to do, having only one ladder, is get up on said rickety, 25 year old, aluminum ladder, find a wall stud 15 ft in the air, put a screw in, then hoist this monstrosity, ( did I say it was a really nice clock?) up the ladder, and hang it!!!!  OF COURSE IT WASN'T THAT EASY!!!!!  I went up and down that ladder (with the clock ) about 4 times, courting certain death if I fall, and what do I get fot my courageous endeavor?

NANA: Thanks honey! (smooch) now would you please hang the mirror upstairs?

ARGHHHHH

Introduction redux
Greetings from the palatial estate. I am rather pleased with myself for getting even this far!!!

I am here to exercise my right to free speech.  Whether anyone will listen is completely up to them. In my first official post, I will tell you what priciples and beliefs drive my life, with examples as to how they apply. I also hope to convey what it feels like to be a liberal in Texas, (as well as a goddamned yankee).
